Anti Malaria TVC

Here’s a TVC we loved working on. It’s for an extensive anti malaria campaign that was run by the Society for Family Health organisation in conjunction with international bodies here in Nigeria. We were called up by Flint Productions to produce a realistic 3D mosquito for two
out of four spots. We love it because it was a funny advert delivering a serious message and the production team working on it were creative and wanted to get a quality product out.

The campaign was well received by the public.

Mumu's Guide to 3D!!!

This is the first in a series of free online turorials for aspiring Nigerian 3D & visual effects artists. We've had a lot of people asking for training but we couldn't really cater to them for now.So we came up with EVCL's Mumu's guide to 3D&VFX.

To those who don't know, a 'mumu' is local Nigerian slang for a dummy. So it's inspired by the 'Dummy's guide to..' series. It's designed to be light and basic with a local slant when possible.

Nigerian Sci-Fi Movie

Here are stills from an idea of a sci-fi/magical movie based in Nigeria that we’ve been toying around with for a while. It is an idea that came way before District 9 before anyone comments. The idea itself is nothing new to be honest. What’s interesting is the angle of how it would work in the West African
context.

Actually, would it work at all? District 9 shows the world is ready for new spins on the sci-fi/Alien based in Africa. But of course you ask is South Africa typical of most African countries? By that I mean it is quite well developed technologically and in infrastructural terms compared to the majority of the rest. For example, is the general Nigerian audience ready to believe it as an arm of the army or police well trained enough to deal with an Alien threat like the American forces did in Independence Day?

I personally think it’s a feasible project but the context is all important. We can’t just copy stories done by Hollywood wholesale and expect it to work. But also I think it is important that some films that come out of Africa show us in a ‘High tech’ light as we have enough stories showing us in a backward ‘low tech’ way.

Adamu Waziri

WIP: The Rule of Law....

These are stills from a project we are working on. The current project title is ‘The Rule of Law’. The Nigerians amongst you will understand the title as will those familiar with our political terrain. This is a highly detailed 3D model of probably the most famous man in the country in the moment, President Umaru Yar’adua.

The sculpture tries to capture the immense inner pressures that come with leading Africa’s most populous nation. EVCL’s Sageer Mohammed had to rely mainly on poor quality images as references. It is actually based on a model that he did for a competition on the Nairaland forum. However working with EVCL director Adamu Waziri the 3D model was worked on further to get it more realistic.

Anti Malaria Campaign

These are shots from an advert we did a while ago. It was for the Society of Family Health in Nigeria. It was a spot to educate the general public about anti malaria medication. We were asked by Flint Productions to handle elements of the visual effects. The core of this focused on creating a 3D mosquito that would realistically blend with the HD footage.

It was a challenging project for several reasons. Turnover time and also tracking some of the shots to get the mosquito to sit in properly were key issues. But we delivered and the client was happy. The spots, 4 in total, were broadcast nationally as part of a wider awareness campaign.
